194-goal striker set to join Kaizer Chiefs?
Kaizer Chiefs are attempting to fill their attacking void as Ranga Chivaviro continues to misfire.
Al-Duhail forward Michael Olunga, who has 194 goals in 261 games, is at the top of Nasreddine Nabi’s wish list, but appears reluctant to leave.
The former La Liga player is settled in Qatar where his side are leading the league after twelve games, ruling out any possible move to Kaizer Chiefs, who have been monitoring the prolific player for months.
Words from Olunga
Further cementing him to the Qatar Stars League Olunga is his ambassadorial role, which strives to grow the game in Asia, which has had a substantial boost in recent years.
“It was not luck; they have really invested a lot in terms of football infrastructure, which is key for the development of the game. Without that, you cannot attract good players,” Olunga told The Asian Game.
“If you attract good players, you will have an opportunity to equally mentor good young players, which been a challenge in the past,
“Now, countries like Jordan, Iraq, and Iran are competing quite well. I give kudos to the Qatari government and football federation for their efforts in growing the game,
“The QSL is one of the top leagues in Asia, but for the national team to grow, player’s need exposure to play week in, week out under pressure, similar to the European game and Champions League,” he added.
“When you’re a leader and a key player, you have to accept that responsibility and can’t shy away from it,
“Maybe we won’t achieve everything ourselves, but the footsteps we leave will illuminate the path for others to follow,
“It’s a long journey, but I’m confident the national team is headed in the right direction,” the forward concluded.”
