35 motorists arrested for drunk driving in Cape Town! The City of Cape Town has revealed that 35 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in the past week. The arrests form part of the city’s ongoing traffic enforcement efforts, as detailed in its latest weekly traffic report.

Thousands of Calls to Emergency Services

According to the report, the Emergency Communication Centre received over 1,800 calls, with a notable increase in assault cases being reported. These incidents reflect growing safety concerns within the metro as the festive season approaches.

City officials also reported a significant number of traffic violations, with more than 56,000 offences recorded in just one week. As part of the enforcement drive, officials impounded over 200 public transport vehicles, highlighting the city’s focus on road safety and compliance.

Focus on High-Risk Areas and Festive Season Plans

JP Smith, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, said that enforcement teams will continue to work according to the festive season safety plan, with increased visibility on major roads, recreational areas, and public venues.

“Our staff deployment will follow the festive season plan with emphasis on the roads, popular recreational areas, and other places of public interest,” said Smith. “We will also continue our focus on daily operational demands like the deployment in gang and crime hotspots.”
