3rd person in Plumstead human trafficking matter arrested ! The Hawks have made yet another breakthrough in a trafficking in persons investigation in Plumstead.

A third suspect, a 35-year-old woman, was arrested on Thursday.

Between the 12th and 24th of March, tracing operations led to the arrest of Rogers Mubiru and Fatuma Bashiba.

They are both in custody until their next court appearance next Thursday, for a formal bail application.

The 35-year-old suspect nabbed on Thursday is expected to make her first appearance in the Wynberg Magistrates Court on Friday morning, on a charge of trafficking in persons.

In September last year, officers visited an address in Plumstead.

Twelve occupants were found on the premises, of which five women were identified as sex workers.

The person found to be managing the brothel was also identified.

A minor female was screened and found to be a victim of trafficking and she was handed over to social workers for emergency placement.

The head of the Hawks in the Western Cape, Mathipa Makgato, has reiterated their commitment to tackling this scourge, describing human trafficking as an evil form of modern slavery.
