50 Cent claps back at scathing Las Vegas show review
Rapper 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, has hit back at criticism of his Las Vegas residency. This was after a prominent blogger labelled it the “worst” show Sin City has ever seen.
The Grammy-winning artist, known for hits like In Da Club and Candy Shop, responded directly to the review. He did this during a recent performance at Planet Hollywood’s PH Live Theatre.
50 CENT’S THE LAS VEGAS RESIDENCY REVIEW
Blogger Jennifer Gay, better known as Vegas Starfish to her nearly one million followers, didn’t hold back in her critique, according to The Root.
She slammed everything from the show’s sound quality to the stage visuals.
In her Instagram post, she claimed, “The sound was poorly balanced, making it impossible to hear the performance.
The stage design felt like it was thrown together in 15 minutes with an AI prompt for ’90s hip-hop images.’”
50 CENT RESPONDS TO THE REVIEW
Gay also criticised Jackson’s energy, adding, “He didn’t want to be there after the first 10 minutes. This was the worst live performance I’ve ever attended.”
Jackson, however, was unfazed, according to Daily Mail.
Addressing the sold-out crowd, he quipped, “They said the audio was bad. What, you thought I’m gonna be out here rollerblading like Usher?”
He also joked, “I’ve seen Chris Brown flying in Africa. I don’t have records that require me to fly in Africa.” The crowd erupted in laughter, showing their support for the hip-hop icon.
50 CENT’S FANS DEFEND HIM
Gay’s comments sparked debate online. Some fans defended the rapper, pointing out that the venue’s sound and lighting might be to blame, according to Complex.
One fan commented, “Your experience was completely different from ours. The crowd was standing and dancing the entire time.” Another wrote, “Sounds like the issues were with the venue, not 50 Cent.”
THE RESIDENCY
The residency at the 4,600-seat PH Live Theatre is part of a lucrative deal reportedly worth R285 million for six shows. This included a New Year’s Eve performance.
The theatre boasts cutting-edge technology, including 2,200 square feet of HD LED walls and a sound system with over 100,000 watts of power.
It has previously hosted artists like Shania Twain, Britney Spears, and Pitbull.
While Gay’s review painted a grim picture, many fans seemed to have a completely different experience. “It’s a concert, not Broadway,” one supporter wrote. “50 Cent delivered what we came for—hits and energy.”
CHART-TOPPING CAREER
Jackson’s career has been defined by his resilience, both in music and business. With chart-topping singles like P.I.M.P. and 21 Questions, he has cemented his place in hip-hop history.
His transition into acting and entrepreneurship, including a successful partnership with the Power Universe series, shows his versatility.
INTENSE SCRUTINY
The drama surrounding Jackson’s residency offers a glimpse into the intense scrutiny global artists face. It also reminds us that no performance is ever immune to criticism.
As Jackson himself once rapped, “Sunny days wouldn’t be special if it wasn’t for rain.” With millions of dollars and loyal fans on his side, it seems unlikely that one bad review will stop his momentum.
