POWER RESTORATION IN AREAS AFFECTED BY EMERGENCY MAINTENANCE

- Alexandra
- Inner City
- Reuven Service Deliver Centre’s (SDC) areas of supply.
“We initiated an emergency isolation of the Sebenza substation today, 24 February 2025 from 16:00. This urgent action was necessary to facilitate repairs on a vandalised earth link box,” the City Power General Manager Isaac Mangena said.
He added that they have started with reinstating full power supply.
“Our teams have completed the necessary repairs and have already started the process of reinstating full supply,” Mangena said.
Mangena emphasised that the power interruption was not part of load-shedding. Scheduled load-shedding will continue taking its place.
ESKOM IMPLEMENTS LOAD-SHEDDING
In a statement, Eskom stated that stage 4 load-shedding will continue to be implemented till Tuesday, 25 February 2025 at 5:00 am. Thereafter, stage 2 load-shedding will commence until further notice.
This follows the recovery of eight out of ten generation units. However, further replenishment is needed to reach sufficient levels.
“Currently, unplanned outages are at 13 690MW, which is 690MW higher than our summer outlook base case of 13 000MW. Ongoing planned maintenance stands at 7 245MW,” the statement read.

X( formerly Twitter) users weighed in on the effects of load-shedding.
@Markosonke 1 said: “I’m literally sitting in the dark right now, struggling to breathe because my oxygen machine won’t work. I have asthma and COPD, but Eskom doesn’t care. If I don’t tweet again, just know Loadshedding won.”
@74224Eileen said: “We have been without electricity in Protea park Rustenburg for 5 days out of 7 days….it happens every week 24 hours now again without electricity I am going to now lay criminal charges against Eskom.”
Another user asked about the R500 million that Eskom allegedly owes the supplier.
@ALooterContinua said: “Have you paid the R500 million you allegedly owe the oil supplier? Are you being supplied inferior coal?”
