About ABSIP STANLIB Bursary
The Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals (ABSIP), in collaboration with STANLIB is thrilled to announce the opening of applications for the 2025 STANLIB Bursary Program.
This initiative is aimed at providing comprehensive financial support to historically disadvantaged students, as defined by the B-BBEE Act, who wish to pursue a career in Investment Management.
This is a unique opportunity for eligible students to gain access to financial assistance while studying towards a career in the highly competitive and rewarding field of investment management.
The STANLIB Bursary is offered for students studying towards an Investment Management qualification at the following South African universities:
- Nelson Mandela University
- Rhodes University
- Stellenbosch University
- University of Cape Town
- University of Johannesburg
- University of KwaZulu-Natal
- University of Limpopo
- University of Pretoria
- University of Venda
- University of Western Cape
- University of Witwatersrand
- North-West University
- University of the Free State
- University of South Africa
- University of Fort Hare
This bursary is available to students who wish to pursue qualifications relevant to Investment Management, such as:
- Bachelor of Business Science
- Bachelor of Commerce
- Bachelor of Science (with subjects in Economics, Business Finance, Investment Management, Financial Analysis, Mathematics, and Statistics)

Bursary Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Academic Excellence: A minimum average of 75% in core academic modules/subjects.
- Leadership & Extracurricular Involvement (optional but preferred): Demonstrating leadership qualities through participation in activities such as sports, debating, or chess clubs.
- Financial Need: Applicants must demonstrate a genuine financial need to support their studies.
- Citizenship: Only Black South African citizens, as defined by the B-BBEE Act, are eligible.
- Full-time Student Status: Applicants must be full-time students, with no permanent work experience (vacation work experience is acceptable).
- Motivation Letter: A one-page letter explaining why the applicant wishes to study Investment Management.
Bursary Benefits
The STANLIB Bursary offers comprehensive financial support, which includes:
- Tuition Fees
- Accommodation (on-campus is preferred, but off-campus accommodation may be assessed on a case-by-case basis)
- Book Allowance (for textbooks and course materials)
- Stipend
- Laptop
Required Documents
Applicants must submit the following documents:
- Certified ID (copy)
- Certified copies of Applicant’s and Parent(s)/Legal Guardian(s)’ IDs
- Academic Record (official)
- Fee Statement (showing current fees)
- Certified payslips and bank statements (for Parent(s)/Legal Guardian(s), covering the last 3 months)
- Motivation Letter (one page)
