Over the years, there have been a lot of players that have played for both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates

Although frowned upon by many, a move between Chiefs and Pirates often happens, but not directly.

This meaning, yes, a player can switch straight between Chiefs and Pirates, but as a free agent. In fact, the first player, at least in modern football to see the two clubs exchange money is Bongani Sam.  In recent times there have been quiet a few players that have faced the wrath of either fan base by crossing the divide.

Khuzwayo swapped Chiefs for Pirates

Jimmy Tau, Lehlohonolo Majoro and Brilliant Khuzwayo coming to mind. For the later, his switch came with heartbreak as he never made an appearance for Pirates. Therefore, technically he only played for Chiefs. But for the Amakhosi supporters, that doesn’t matter as he signed on the dotted line with their arch rivals. The ex-goalkeeper has since detailed how the controversial move came about.

“I spoke to Dr Irvin Khoza (Pirates chairman) a year before my contract ended [at Chiefs] and then called Bobby [Motaung]. He [Motaung] gave me a new contract, and I told him I’m not going sign it. Bobby told me that I must tell Dr Kaizer Motaung that I’m not going sign the contract; I called the meeting with Bobby, Dr Motaung, and the head coach then was Steve Komphela. They asked me where I was going, but I couldn’t say.” Said Khuzwayo to SoccerBeat as over FARPost

How it all happened

Unfortunately for Khuzwayo, he was robbed of an opportunity to make an appearance for Pirates. He suffered a career-ending ankle injury while training with the Buccaneers. So with that being said, he doesn’t official join the list above.

Chiefs fans, do you still remember how you felt when Khuzwayo signed for Pirates? Feel free to leave your thoughts and feelings in the comments below.
