AmaZulu welcome Bongani Zungu and former Pirates defender
AmaZulu have officially secured the services of former Orlando Pirates defender Sandile Mthethwa and experienced central midfielder Bongani Zungu.
With Usuthu fighting relegation, the two signings might see their fortunes turnaround ahead of the second round of the Betway Premiership campaign. Both players join Usuthu on permanent deals as free agents following successful medicals.
Bongani Zungu’s signing comes as a surprise, given the midfielder was linked with Kaizer Chiefs before he joined AmaZulu. Upon joining Usuthu, ‘Ben 10’ said he was excited about his role under co-coaches Arthur Zwane and Vusumuzi Vilakazi.
“My personal goal is to help the team climb as high as possible on the log table, assist the younger players, and bring my experience to the squad,” said Zungu.
The Duduza-born midfielder emphasized his ambition to add silverware to AmaZulu’s cabinet.
Bongani Zungu wants to win trophies with AmaZulu
“Everywhere I’ve played, I’ve managed to win trophies, and I want to bring that same winning mentality here. I know what it takes to win, and that’s my aim.
“I’m also thrilled to be coached by Arthur Zwane and Vusi Vilakazi. I’ve watched AmaZulu’s games, and the team plays the modern game. My understanding of the game will help the team, but I know I have to work hard to earn my place,” he said.
Having left Mamelodi Sundowns end of last season, Bongani Zungu will look to restart at AmaZulu. He has not kicked a ball in six months and might need time to get fit and ready to play.
Did Zungu make the right decision?
