Why Amnesty International?

Amnesty International is a global movement of over 10 million people in more than 150 countries, all driven by one goal: to promote and protect human rights worldwide. Founded in 1961, we advocate for those whose voices need to be heard. Our work spans a vast range of issues—from fighting against torture and injustice to campaigning for the rights of refugees and marginalized communities. At Amnesty, we believe in the power of collective action, and through your expertise, you can help us amplify the voices that matter.

What is the Consultant Role?

As a consultant with Amnesty International, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our mission. This position is flexible and can be based anywhere globally, dependent on the suitable consultant’s location. You will be expected to provide specialized knowledge and skills that will enhance our campaigns, research endeavours, and advocacy strategies. Whether it’s through data analysis, project management, or in-depth research, your contributions will directly influence our ability to protect and promote human rights.

Key Responsibilities

As part of your role, you could be tasked with:

  • Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough research on specific human rights issues and produce reports that provide actionable insights for our campaigns.
  • Project Management: Collaborate with our teams to plan, implement, and evaluate projects that align with our objectives, ensuring that deadlines are met and goals are achieved.
  • Capacity Building: Provide training and support to our staff and volunteers, helping them develop their skills in advocacy, campaign strategy, and issue advocacy.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Work alongside various stakeholders, including grassroots organizations, legal experts, and policy-makers, to foster collaborative efforts in human rights activism.
  • Campaign Development: Assist in the conceptualization and execution of innovative campaigns that raise awareness and drive action around pressing human rights issues.

Who Should Apply?

This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who possess a genuine commitment to human rights and the capability to impact the lives of individuals and communities globally. While the exact qualifications will depend on the specific needs of the role, we are looking for candidates who have:

  • Relevant Experience: A background in human rights, international law, social justice, or a related field is essential.
  • Strong Analytical Skills: The ability to interpret complex information and present it clearly and effectively is critical.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Proficiency in writing and verbal communication in English is required. Additional languages will be highly advantageous.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Experience working in diverse environments and an understanding of global human rights issues will be beneficial.
  • Proactivity and Independence: As a consultant, you will need to demonstrate self-motivation and the ability to work remotely and manage your time effectively.

What We Offer

Beyond the opportunity to work with a globally respected organization, we offer a competitive daily rate of £300. While this consultancy role is temporary, the experience you gain will be invaluable in advancing your career in the human rights field.

  • Flexible Work Environment: Enjoy the freedom to work from wherever you are most productive. As a global organization, we embrace diversity and welcome consultants from various backgrounds and locations.
  • Networking Opportunities: Collaborate with like-minded professionals and gain access to a vast network of human rights advocates, policymakers, and NGOs.
  • Impactful Work: Your contributions will have a real-world impact, helping to protect the rights of individuals and communities worldwide.
