Just hours after Anele Mdoda accused an Uber driver of threatening to rape her, another user from the e-hailing app alleged that he had been “extorted,” also by a driver during a Collect trip.

PASSENGER ACCUSES UBER DRIVER OF EXTORTION

On the X app, tweep @kamvag_ – who, according to his bio, is a PR executive – posted tweets about his distressing Uber experience.

Over the weekend, the Cape Town tweep accused a driver from the e-hailing app of stealing his laptop bag during a Collect trip. Inside his bag was his passport, which he urgently needed to fly out of the country.

He tweeted alongside a screenshot of the driver’s details: “This isn’t a case of a mistake. The man cancelled the trip after collecting the bag. How that is even possible is mind-boggling to me!”

The frustrated app user claimed he had reached out to Uber but had received automated messages.

On Monday, 24 February, @kayvag_ shared an update that his belongings had been recovered – at a cost.

He posted: “I can’t believe I’m saying this right now. MY STUFF HAVE BEEN FOUND. It was extortion for sure, but my belongings are safe.”

The tweep implied that the driver had returned his items in exchange for money, which Uber strictly prohibits.

I can’t believe I’m saying this right now

MY STUFF HAVE BEEN FOUND. It was extortion for sure but my belongings are safe. Thank you to the complete strangers on here who stood on business!

ANELE LAYS CRIMINAL CHARGES

Meanwhile, Anele Mdoda has stated that she will lay criminal charges against the Uber driver who allegedly made threats of rape to her during a trip.

The media personality posted two clips of her harrowing ordeal in Cape Town. In it, she claimed that the driver of a white Mercedes Benz was angered after she requested the “no talking” option during her ride.

The man, a foreign national, allegedly told her: “In my country, we would rape you to teach you a lesson.”
