,JOB PURPOSE
The Fellowship seeks to enhance diversity of representation in the field of international justice by offering an opportunity to young African professionals (early to mid-career practitioners and scholars) based in Africa to work on international justice issues and mechanisms. Fellows benefit from knowledge, skills and experience transfer, practical exposure to international justice spaces and forums, and the opportunity to engage and network with a variety of relevant actors and stakeholders in the international justice movement. Fellows also participate in discrete research, legal analysis, policy discourse and campaigning projects relating to international justice.

ABOUT YOU
As the International Justice in Africa Fellow, you will be fluent in written and spoken English, with good interpersonal and communication skills enabling you to work well in a team environment. You will also have the ability to accurately analyze human rights issues.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with research activities on accountability for crimes under international law in Africa and elsewhere through desk research and drafting.
- Assist with monitoring and analyzing international and regional developments on international justice issues.
- Assist with developing advocacy positions and strategies on identified priorities relating to international justice.
- Participate and contribute to relevant internal and external policy discussions relating to international justice issues and mechanisms
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Good knowledge of and experience in the application of international law, including international human rights law, humanitarian law and international criminal law is essential.
- Ability to accurately analyze legal issues and apply legal reasoning in pursuit of developing a strategic response.
- Ability to gather and process human rights-related information/related.
- Ability to write clearly and concisely (without the need for significant editorial revision) and proof-read research, campaign and advocacy materials.
- Outstanding written and verbal English is essential. Fluency in written and spoken French is desirable.

Following the success of our International Justice in Africa Fellowship (2023-2024), Amnesty International is proud to renew it for a third year. The fellowship aims to strengthen diversity of representation in the international justice sector by offering young African professionals (early to mid-career lawyers or academics) based on the African continent to work on international justice issues and mechanisms. Selected individuals will benefit from sharing experiences, knowledge and skills, as well as practical experience of international justice spaces and forums. They will also be able to exchange and build relationships with a wide range of actors in the international justice movement. Grantees will also participate in research, legal analysis, advocacy exchanges and campaign projects related to international justice.
A position based in Dakar, Senegal is open for applications.
ABOUT YOU:
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in research activities on accountability for crimes under international law, in Africa and elsewhere, including by conducting desk research and drafting reports.

- Attend and contribute to discussions on internal and external policies related to international justice issues and mechanisms.

- Ability to correctly analyze legal issues and apply legal reasoning to develop a strategic response.

- Ability to write clearly and concisely (without extensive editorial review) and proofread research, campaign and advocacy materials.
