Job description

GIZ has been commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union to implement the Joint Action “Migration, Jobs and Development”. The aim is to provide economic and social reintegration measures for returned migrants and jobseekers, capacity building for members of employment promotion institutions, engaging diaspora organisations, pursuing legal pathways of labour and educational migration and establishing regional employment promotion networks.
As part of this efforts, the project has established a “Study in Europe” Desk at the Ghanaian European Centre (GEC) that aims to inform Ghanaian students about studying and scholarship opportunities in EU Member States. It further has established a network of International Desks at around 30 universities. The intern should support the Study in Europe advisor with the implementation of related activities, knowledge management and public outreach and social media communication.

Your tasks

During your internship, you will assist with the following tasks, among others:

  • Provide direct support to management, facilitating efficient operations of the team through meeting preparation and moderation, minute-taking and workflow coordination
  • Support with research work and technical evaluation as well as information processing
  • Contribute to editorial planning and communication insights, assisting in shaping content and monitoring communication channels
  • Craft compelling content, writing articles and social media posts to keep our audience informed
  • Support during outreach sessions across Ghana to inform on study abroad opportunities
  • Support knowledge management, assisting in onboarding and implementing new knowledge management tools and strategies within the programme

Your profile

  • You are studying from at least the sixth semester in Communications, International Relations, Political Sciences, Development Studies, Business Administration or a related field
  • Interest in the field of international mobility of skilled workers and studying abroad programmes
  • You have knowledge and/or experience with the Erasmus programme, other international exchange formats and international scholarships
  • Knowledge of the topic of regular labour and educational migration is desirable
  • Strategic, conceptual thinking and organisational talent
  • Outstanding communication skills, very good negotiating skills (proactive/communicative nature)
  • Commitment, flexibility, ability to work under pressure and independence
  • Prior experience with and interest in communication tasks, in particular drafting texts for social media, web and articles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with social media platforms (e.g. LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and German (at least C1)

Location information

In general, the security situation is calm. GIZ staff must adhere to security measures at all times. Please also check the county-specific information provided by the German Federal Foreign Office. A contact person for security risk management is appointed at the local GIZ office.

We pay a monthly stipend of €2.134,52 (gross). Depending on the country of assignment a monthly expatriation allowance (gross), predetermined by GIZ will be paid on top.
