Founded in 2019, the Equality Fund is revolutionizing how resources and power are channeled into the hands of women, girls, and gender-expansive people worldwide. Built by feminists, for feminists, it champions sustainable feminist movements through innovative global grantmaking, gender-lens investing, policy advocacy, and feminist philanthropy. To date, the Fund has activated over $100 million, supporting more than 1,000 organizations across 100 countries, making a significant impact in advancing gender justice and equality.
The Role and Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Director of Program Strategy, the Program Officer is a pivotal member of the Global Programs team. Their primary focus will be analyzing regional and thematic trends related to women’s rights, feminist organizing, and gender equity, with an emphasis on the Middle East and Central and Eastern Europe. They will oversee grantmaking processes, develop and maintain strong relationships with grantee partners, and support capacity-building initiatives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Partnerships in Grantmaking: Staying informed about regional and thematic trends, supporting and strengthening feminist organizations, managing grant portfolios, and fostering collaborations with external partners.
- Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning: Contributing to feminist-oriented monitoring and evaluation systems, documenting lessons learned, and supporting reporting to funders and stakeholders.
- Organizational Engagement: Documenting program experiences, supporting team onboarding, and ensuring a safe, respectful, and inclusive work environment aligned with EF’s values.
Qualifications and Skills
Candidates should bring a minimum of five years of experience in programmatic grantmaking or related areas within international development, gender equity, or feminist movements. Deep knowledge of feminist issues in the Middle East, North Africa, and Eastern Europe is essential, alongside strong competencies in partnership development, feminist approaches, and participatory methodologies.
Fluency in English and professional competency in Arabic are required, with additional language skills being advantageous. Proficiency in digital tools, data analysis, and reporting systems is also necessary. The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression, and intersectionality, embodying core adaptive leadership competencies such as self-awareness, systems thinking, and collaborative problem-solving.
