Biggest winners after Kaizer Chiefs-SuperSport United clash
In his 999th game in charge, Gavin Hunt showed why he’s still one of the best in the business, thumping an in-form Kaizer Chiefs 4-1 at the FNB Stadium.
It took three minutes for Hunt’s side to open their account, former AmaKhosi poacher Samir Nurkovic scoring from close range before the recently departed Christian Saile put the visitors back on top after a Makabi Lilepo goal at the half-an-hour mark.
Having just beaten Chippa United and Stellenbosch, Kaizer Chiefs were beginning to build some much-needed momentum – now it seems they’re back to square one.
The biggest winners
With the PSL turning into a two-horse race between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, that leaves third-place – CAF Confederation Cup qualification – up for grabs.
Polokwane currently accommodates that spot, but with nine points separating third from twelfth, it’s anyone’s guess who will end up with the bronze medal.
Sixth-placed Kaizer Chiefs squandered the opportunity to elevate themselves up to fourth place, a point behind Rise and Shine, meaning the biggest winners after SuperSport United’s triumph are Polokwane City, TS Galaxy, Sekhukhune United, Stellenbosch and AmaZulu.
Nabi apologises to the fans
Following AmaKhosi’s head-scratching defeat to Hunt’s side, Nabi quickly apologised to the Kaizer Chiefs faithful in the post-match interview, saying, “so now I want to speak to the fans because I’m not someone who runs away from responsibility. I want to take this time to explain to them the situation and not necessarily to make excuses,
“It is true that today’s result hurts them and I’m also the first person that it hurts as well as them. This is not the game that they should use to judge their team or at least the potential of their team,
“This kind of accident happens in all championships, and it can even happen that the score is higher than what we’ve seen today. It’s not possible to be a good team three days earlier and then three days after you are a weak team, it’s not possible,” the Kaizer Chiefs boss added.
Where will Kaizer Chiefs finish in the league?
