Boy sentenced to 10 years in prison for murdering girl who refused to kiss him
Boy sentenced to 10 years in prison for murdering girl who refused to kiss him! In a shocking and heartbreaking case, a 15-year-old boy has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the cold-blooded murder of 14-year-old Naeema Marshall.
The court heard how the young girl was shot and killed after she refused to kiss him—a crime that has left the Kleinvlei community reeling in grief.
The Crime That Shook Kleinvlei
The Blue Downs Magistrates Court handed down the harsh sentence on Tuesday, following the teenager’s conviction on November 28, 2024.
According to police spokesperson Wesley Twigg, the accused fatally shot Naeema Marshall in July 2023, after she rejected his advances.
“The accused was found guilty on 28 November 2024 for the charges that were brought before the court. He remained in custody for the duration of the trial, and it was proven beyond reasonable doubt that he was guilty of murder,” said Twigg.
Sentencing and Additional Charges
Aside from his 10-year sentence for murder, the boy was also handed an additional three-year sentence for the illegal possession of a firearm, as well as one year for the illegal possession of ammunition.
Due to his age, the court took into account various factors before sentencing, including his background, psychological state, and potential for rehabilitation. However, the severity of the crime ultimately led the court to impose a strong sentence.
A Community in Shock
The Kleinvlei community has been left outraged and heartbroken by the senseless killing of Naeema Marshall. Many residents and activists are calling for stricter gun control laws and more intervention programs to prevent youth involvement in violent crimes.
Local residents say that Marshall was a bright, kind, and ambitious young girl who had her entire future ahead of her.
“She was just a child,” said one grieving neighbor. “She didn’t deserve to die for simply saying no.”
The Rising Concern of Gender-Based Violence Among Youth
This tragic case has once again highlighted the deep-rooted issue of gender-based violence (GBV) in South Africa. Experts say that cases like this show how toxic masculinity and entitlement can lead to deadly consequences, even among young boys.
Many women’s rights activists are using this case to raise awareness about consent, emphasizing that no girl should ever fear for her life simply for refusing a boy’s advances.
“This is not just a case of teenage violence. This is about a culture of entitlement where young boys believe they have the right to a girl’s body,” said a local women’s rights activist.
How Did a 15-Year-Old Get a Gun?
One of the most troubling aspects of this case is the fact that the accused had access to a firearm at such a young age. Authorities are now investigating how he obtained the weapon and whether gang activity or adult influence played a role.
Police have reiterated the urgent need for stricter gun control measures and better firearm regulation, as illegal guns continue to fall into the hands of teenagers.
“We cannot afford to have young children gaining access to firearms,” said Twigg. “We are working tirelessly to remove illegal guns from our communities, but we need the public’s help.”
The Road to Justice for Naeema
While the court’s verdict brings some measure of justice, Naeema’s family is still devastated by their loss.
“No sentence will bring my daughter back,” said her mother tearfully. “But I hope this serves as a lesson to other boys out there—that no means no.”
Activists and community leaders are now calling for more education on gender-based violence, consent, and healthy relationships to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
As South Africa grapples with its ongoing GBV crisis, this case serves as a harsh reminder of the urgent need for change—especially when it comes to protecting young girls from violence.
