Former Miss SA participant Chidimma Adetshina’s mother, Anabela Rungo, was granted R10 000 bail by the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court amid immigration fraud charges.

Chidimma’s mother has since been classified as prohibited in South Africa since she holds no official documents.

CHIDIMMA ADETSHINA’S MOTHER, ANABELA RUNGO RELEASED ON BAIL

According to court papers, Rungo faces seven charges of contravention of the Immigration Act.

Rungo was arrested after her daughter Chidimma Adetshina was spotted in the Mother City despite Home Affairs revoking her documents. This led to a cry, which saw Rungo being nabbed.

Chidimma’s mother, Rungo, was given strict bail conditions, including a house arrest for the duration of her bail.

The media has since established that she can only leave her Summer Greens for court appearances and consulting with a lawyer.

The publication has since established that she can attend the Home Affairs offices if required.

On the other hand, she is barred from making any applications for documents and is not allowed to visit the embassy or send anybody on her behalf.

The case was postponed until 8 May for further investigation. Immigration officer Adrian Jackson told the court that Rungo was arrested for violating immigration laws and the Identification Act.

The arrest came after she failed to contest the cancellation of her ID number. Chidimma’s mother could not respond to a notice issued against her in September 2024 to challenge the decision.

Chidimma’s mother fraudulently obtained the documents in 2001 through identity theft, according to Home Affairs.

During his first appearance, the court heard she had falsely applied for an ID document under Sara Moyo.

Jackson stated she couldn’t be found, so letters about her ID withdrawal were sent to her through WhatsApp.

‘I BELIEVE I’M INNOCENT AND WILL BE ACQUITTED’

However, South Africans have questioned whether the bail was justified due to the severity of her charges.

Some have accused the justice system of being too lenient. Chidimma’s mother faces a string of charges, including Identity Theft.

However, Rungo has maintained her innocence, stating, “I believe I am innocent and will be acquitted. She also added: “My release would not undermine public peace.”

The court also heard that despite her seized documents, Chidimma’s mother continued to travel outside the country, presumably using a Mozambican passport.
