Magesi FC coach Clinton Larsen has explained why former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates stars are not playing regularly.

Kgaogelo Sekgota and Gift Motupa joined Dikwena tsa Meetsi upon the club’s promotion to the Premier Soccer League this season but have struggled to break into Larsen’s team. Magesi have struggled in the PSL only managing to win just a single match so far.

Larsen though, claimed the Carling Knockout Cup beating Mamelodi Sundowns in the final.

Larsen benching ex-Chiefs and Pirates stars

“Gift is at the club. He is training. Unfortunately, in the position he is playing in, Wonderboy Makhubu is excelling. So, it’s difficult for Gift to get into the team with the presence and form of Wonderboy at the moment,” Larsen told Soccer Laduma

“He has to work hard, wait for his time, and grab it. We have seven strikers in the team. We have a big striking force and I’ve always said that I don’t pick names.

“I pick players on form and at the moment the other strikers are ahead of him in the pecking order,” he added.

Larsen has faced Chiefs, Pirates and Sundowns in his first 10 matches this season. He is so far unbeaten against the top three teams and explains why even experienced players are struggling to make his team.

“Sekgota is fighting with the likes of Chirambadare, with Mashigo and the other players doing exceptionally well on the wings. The same applies to him. Even though he started (the match), it’s been the same case for him,” he said.
