Communities urged to play their part in preventing illegal electricity connections! While Eskom has assured that load shedding will remain suspended over the Easter holiday period, the power utility is urging the public to refrain from making illegal connections to the electricity network.

The utility warned that such actions could lead to prolonged outages and equipment failures, especially as electricity demand begins to climb with the onset of colder winter weather.

Eskom spokesperson Daphne Mokoena has called on communities to play their part in curbing illegal connections.

She said that public cooperation was crucial in preventing transformer overloads and other infrastructure damage.

“This can be achieved by avoiding illegal connections, purchasing electricity only from Eskom-accredited vendors, and ensuring that customers take responsibility for regularising their electricity usage. Eligible households are encouraged to register for free basic electricity with their local municipalities.”
