A Kaizer Chiefs academy product has rejected Orlando Pirates in order to sign for Stellenbosch FC according to reports.

Both Pirates and Stellenbosch had been fighting for the services of TS Galaxy midfielder Thato Khiba.

Stellenbosch are set to lose Bafana Bafana midfielder Jayden Adams to Mamelodi Sundowns. That is expected to be a lucrative that will gave the Winelands side some wiggle room in the transfer market. They look to have identified their perfect replacement for him, this inGalaxy midfielderKhiba. The only problem is, Pirates have also registered an interest in the player. The Soweto giants are believed to have made a last minute bid to sign the player.

Pirates and Stellenbosch went head-to-head for Khiba

It was thought that Pirates saw Khiba as a long-term replacement for their veteran midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula. This publication reported that the player was most likely to choose Stellenbosch, despite a late surge from the Buccaneers, and iDiski Times have now confirmed that.

“ Stellenbosch FC have secured the services of midfielder Thato Khiba from TS Galaxy. The 28-year-old midfielder has agreed to sign a two-and-a-half-year deal with an option to extend after the two clubs concluded negotiations of the transfer fee on Sunday. Khiba, who was also chased by Orlando Pirates, was targeted by Stellenbosch in the off-season but made him a priority signing in the current window, with Jayden Adams on the move to Mamelodi Sundowns this week. Since leaving Kaizer Chiefs development in 2018, he spent time in the lower leagues with Uthongathi and African All Stars, before a breakthrough with Marumo Gallants.” Wrote the publication.

Cape Winelands side wins race!

Khiba may be looking at the bigger playing opportunity he could get at Stellenbosch while also playing continental football. While maybe at Pirates he was going to play more of a supporting role. Buccaneers fans, would it be a blow if the club doesn’t sign the Galaxy man?
