Kaizer Chiefs are preparing to swoop in for Royal AM pair Xolani Ngcobo and Mfundo Thikazi.

The Durban outfit hasn’t played since their 3-1 defeat to TS Galaxy on December 29 following reports of the club’s financial crisis led by owner Shauwn MaMkhize Mkhize, who owes the South African Revenue Service (SARS) around R40 million, plus an additional R11 million to former forward Samir Nurković.

According to reports, SARS will sell Royal AM to settle Mkhize’s debt.

With so much controversy surrounding the club and players unable to perform, the Kwa-Zulu Natal side were forced to terminate several contracts.

Another flux of players is predicted to want out of Royal AM in the offseason, prompting several clubs to monitor their key performers.

Ngcobo interest confirmed

“There were other teams that had also shown interest before but the one that has inquired about him in recent times after what is happening at the club is Kaizer Chiefs,” SoccerLaduma confirmed.

“They have shown serious interest and have inquired. But with the current situation at Royal AM there is nothing much we can say,

“I think they will wait on what is going to happen first as they monitor the situation. But they are interested in him.”

Thikazi interest confirmed

“Yes, it’s not the first time Chiefs have shown interest in him [Thikazi],” a Siya source confirmed.

“But in the past things were not finalized but as the way things are going now and looking at Royal AM’s situation, his move to Chiefs is possible. It could happen at the end of the season. Things are looking good and it could be good for the player as well.”

Thikazi’s current club, Royal AM, who have had all games in 2025 suspended, are on the brink of being expelled from the PSL due to their financial mishaps, unable to pay player salaries and rooted in R40 million debt to SARS – Kaizer Chiefs could get Thikazi for free.

Should Kaizer Chiefs sign both players?
