Position Purpose

The Security Guard position at Dis-Chem Pharmacies in Durban is a permanent role designed to maintain a safe and secure environment in compliance with the Private Security Industry Regulations Act 56 of 2001. Security Guards will conduct patrols, monitor access points, and respond to crises, ensuring the protection of Dis-Chem’s assets and staff. With a market-related salary (approximately R6,000–R10,000/month), this role offers stability and growth for PSIRA-registered candidates.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct random patrols to deter criminal activities and ensure premises security.
• Monitor and control access points, allowing entry only to authorized personnel and visitors.
• Investigate and report signs of damage, unlawful entry, or suspicious activities to management.
• Maintain a visible presence to discourage theft, personal injury, or dishonourable acts.
• Perform thorough searches of staff, suppliers, vehicles, and goods to prevent unauthorized access.
• Maintain and complete security registers and occurrence books.
• Oversee refuse removal according to Dis-Chem standards.
• Respond swiftly to emergencies, including robberies or fire outbreaks, and support first responders.
• Manage evacuation procedures and maintain order during crises.
• Provide ongoing security advice and safety warnings to staff and customers.

Eligibility Criteria

• South African citizen with a valid ID, aged 18–45 (preferred).
• Grade 12 certificate (Matric or Senior Certificate).
• Grade C accreditation with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA).
• Minimum 3 years of experience in the retail industry (e.g., shopping malls, warehouses).
• Clear criminal and credit record, verified through MIE checks.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
• Willingness to work extended hours, including weekends and public holidays.

Preferences

• At least 1 year of specific experience in a similar security role.
• Proficiency in a third language (e.g., isiZulu, Afrikaans).
• Candidates from designated Employment Equity groups (Coloureds, Indians, Whites, persons with disabilities).
• Fire emergency and health and safety training exposure.
• Driver’s license and reliable transport (with PDP if deployed as a driver).
