Dove unfazed by Sundowns challenge, despite Chiefs’ struggles
Kaizer Chiefs will take on Mamelodi Sundowns in the Betway Premiership this Saturday afternoon. Defender Edmilson Dove has stated that they eagerly anticipate the challenge of facing the reigning league champions.
Amakhosi have already lost twice to The Brazilians this season. Chiefs fell to a 2-1 defeat at home in the Betway Premiership reverse fixture and suffered a 4-0 loss in the Carling Black Label Cup, also at home.
Their recent run against Sundowns doesn’t faze Dove.
“Obviously, they are a good side,” the defender told the club media.
“They have depth in their squad and have been on a good run, but as far as I am concerned, I don’t worry too much about the opposition because at the end of the day, what matters most is what we do.

“Our purpose is to be at our best to give a good account of ourselves because that is the part we can control. Obviously, we do analysis on our opponents, but we primarily focus on our own approach.” Dove added.
After a heavy 4-1 loss to SuperSport United last week, Kaizer Chiefs are considered the underdogs in their upcoming clash. Sundowns, on the other hand, have enjoyed a better run of recent results.
MAMELODI SUNDOWNS HUGE FAVOURITES TO CLAIM THE WIN
The form guide of both sides suggests that the hosts will leave the Lucas Moripe Stadium with all three points.
Recent Form Comparisons:

- Won 4-1 at home to TS Galaxy
- Won 3-1 away to Marumo Gallants

DOVE THANKFUL TO THE AMAKHOSI FAITHFUL
Kaizer Chiefs are eighth on the league table and are set to battle for a top eight position. Last season, they ended the campaign outside the top eight, a far cry from their glory days.
Despite these struggles, the Kaizer Chiefs fans have remained loyal to the club, even during their recent years of relative despair. They are likely to outnumber the Mamelodi Sundowns supporters at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.
“From the supporters, we cannot ask for more than they have been doing,” Dove spoke.
“They have been behind us through thick and thin and have never abandoned us even when things haven’t gone our way, so I want to commend them and let them know how much we appreciate their loyalty.
“Their support is very important to the team, and they play a major part in everything we do on the field. Their singing from the stands lifts up our spirits and we implore them to keep supporting us because we need them.” He stated.
The Glamour Boys have had to modify their usual high standards to align with the capabilities of their current team. Striving for a top eight finish is not where the fans wish to be.
However, this is unfortunately their reality. Do Kaizer Chiefs have what it takes to compete in the MTN 8 next season?
WILL KAIZER CHIEFS MAKE THE TOP 8 THIS SEASON?
