AfriForum and Solidarity have been on a campaign in the United States attempting to lobby against the Expropriation Act, and the EFF has come forward to express its disgust.

The EFF has called for harsh consequences against both groups amid growing tensions between South Africa and the US.

EFF condemns AfriForum, Solidarity movement

The EFF has voiced its outrage over attempts by both groups to mobilise support against the Expropriation Act in America.

“In what should be viewed as treasonous acts by both AfriForum and Solidarity Movement, they are seeking aid from the US to fund the Afrikaner minority for security and training structures meant for their exclusive benefits, to perpetuate their narrow political interests, and for their inherent beliefs to be viewed as a privileged group.” EFF statement

Party unsurprised offer of US refugee status has been rejected

Certainly, the EFF isn’t surprised the offer for Afrikaners to take up refugee status in the US has been rejected. Allegedly, leaving the country would mean losing what the party has dubbed ‘white minority privelidges in the country.

Additionally, the party claims that these organisations will never leave SA for a host of reasons, commenting that:

“Economically speaking, these racist organisations will never leave South Africa as they know that it is their haven, where they can exploit Africans for cheap disposable labour while enjoying the fruits of the land they acquired through violent dispossession.”

The EFF has warned that there will be consequences should this attempt to gain support succeed.

“Furthermore, these organisations seek to circumvent the implementation of the BELA Act, NHI, and the Expropriation Bill by seeking a foreign state to meddle in the affairs of South Africa by putting pressure on the government to repeal these Acts. If these demands were to be carried out by the government, it would mean the loss of our sovereignty as a state.” EFF statement

GNU called on to declare both groups ‘terrorist organisations’

In response, the party has now called upon the coalition government to take action in response to campaigning in the US. The statement reads:

“We, therefore, call on the so-called Government of National Unity (GNU) to designate AfriForum and  Solidarity Movement as domestic terrorist organisations actively working against the interests of the republic by spreading lies and misinformation across borders. Their actions are a direct threat to the stability and sovereignty of South Africa, and they must be treated as such.”

AfriForum defends position: SA will lose jobs

Meanwhile, AfriForum has defended its position against the Expropriation Act which seeks to provide for the expropriation of property for a public purpose or in the public interest.

“There is growing anger in the US government over South Africa’s foreign policy. It is going to cost South Africa dearly and tens of thousands of people will pay with their jobs for the government’s reckless policies.” AfriForum statement

Additionally, AfriForum shed light on Solidarity’s involvement in campaigning against the act in the US.

“The Solidarity Movement cannot and will not act on behalf of the government, but believes that the call for intensified political pressure to bring about policy change is in the interest of all South Africans.” AfriForum statement
