Ernst Roets resigns from top Solidarity post after 20 years of service
Dr Ernst Roets has announced his resignation from Solidarity as the Head of Policy at the Solidarity Movement and Executive Director at the Afrikaner foundation.
Taking to social media on Wednesday, Roets announced his decision to cut ties with the organization which is aimed at ‘garnering international support for the Afrikaner people and the institutions of the Solidarity Movement’.
Ernst Roets reveals he aims to live out his calling elsewhere
Roets confirmed that he has opted to resign from his top post at the foundation after 20 years of involvement.
While vague with the details, Roets hinted that he intends to live out his calling: just not with Solidarity.
“I made this decision because I became convinced that there is more space for me outside the Solidarity Movement to live out my calling and truly mean something to our people- that I will be able to make a greater contribution outside the movement.” Dr Ernst Roets
Roets went on to thank his family and close friends for their support over the past few weeks, admitting to being ‘overwhelmed by a feeling of gratitude’.
Roets grateful to Solidarity despite departure
Roets may have dedicated the past two decades to Solidarity, but the former head of policy insists that he has more hope for the future than sadness over the past.
“My excitement about the chapter ahead is much greater than the sadness with the chapter I am closing.”
Interestingly, Roets highlighted his gratitude to Solidarity and AfriForum before wishing them well with the ‘great task’ ahead.
” I am deeply grateful to the Solidarity Movement, and especially AfriForum, for the opportunities I have received, the experiences I have gained and the friends I have made. I wish the leadership of the Solidarity Movement all the best with the great task that rests on their shoulders.“

Resignation comes amid pressure over US condemnation of SA
Roets resigning from Solidarity comes just days after the Presidency refused the group’s request to meet with President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The group has been under pressure following US President Donald Trump issuing an Executive Order against South Africa. In the order, allegations that Afrikaner people were mistreated in the country resulted in offers of refugee status in the US.
Solidarity had spearheaded projects to lobby for the Afrikaner people overseas and many speculate that the group is largely responsible for the negative perception the US leader has.
Certainly, Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya outright accused the group of ‘peddling lies’ overseas.
Do you think Roets is being transparent over his decision to resign?
