Exclusive: Cape Town City eyes top analyst Sinesipho Mali
Cape Town City eyes top analyst Sinesipho Mali amid club changes currently taking place.
City is making significant structural changes, and one of their top priorities is securing a new Head of Analysis and Scouting. Sources confirm that the club has its eyes set on Sekhukhune United analyst Mali as the prime candidate. Mali just recently joined Sekhukhune at the beginning of the current season.
Major Changes at Cape Town City
The club has been undergoing a series of major shifts. First, they parted ways with head coach Eric Tinkler. Then, they appointed Muhsin Ertugral as Technical Director, with Ertugral temporarily stepping in as head coach.
The changes didn’t stop there. Cape Town City has also been linked with former Ajax Cape Town coach Andries Ulderink for the head coach role, hinting at further restructuring within the team.
Legal battle shakes the club
Adding to the turmoil, a official found himself at the centre of a legal dispute. The club filed fraud charges against him, leading to his resignation and subsequent arrest.
Grant Veitch, who served as the club’s Head of Development for several years, resigned from his role on January 31, 2025, after landing a position at a top international agency, Roc Nation. He was expected to serve out his notice period throughout February. However, Veitch was arrested on February 19, 2025, and appeared in court on February 21.
Facing fraud charges for allegedly stealing R32,000 from club chairman John Comitis. Veitch was granted bail at R5,000 with no conditions. The state did not oppose bail.
Mali poised to join City
With the legal issues unfolding in the background, Cape Town City remains focused on strengthening its technical department. The club is looking to bring in Mali, who boasts an impressive track record in football analysis and scouting.
Mali played a crucial role as a performance and video analyst for Bafana Bafana when the team secured the bronze medal at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast. His resume also includes serving as a performance manager for Chippa United from 2017 to 2019, as well as an analyst and scout for the powerhouse club Kaizer Chiefs.
While the move remains unconfirmed, speculation suggests that Mali could join Cape Town City for the 2025/2026 season. Mali’s strong working relationship with Ertugral will likely play a key role in his decision.
Once the club finalises this appointment, it will take another strategic step in its ongoing transformation. With Mali’s expertise, the club aims to strengthen its scouting and analysis department, setting the stage for a promising future.
