Orlando Pirates have been tipped to beat arch rivals Kaizer Chiefs to the signing of a Bafana Bafana international.

Both Chiefs and Pirates are usually in competition for players of a high quality and sometimes the same players.

Already in the previous window there have been several players that are linked with a move to either Chiefs or Pirates. Oswin Appollis, Thabang Matuludi of Polokwane City have been the most prominent duo. There has also been now injured Golden Arrows striker Lungelo Nguse and Stellenbosch FC left-back Fawaaz Basadien. The one that has gone quiet for both parties has been Cape Town Spurs youngster Asanele Velebayi. With the struggles of his team in the First Division, he could, perhaps be one to watch at the end of the campaign.

Kwayiba next

The next is expected to be Bafana Bafana international Sinxolo Kwayiba. The midfielder is a key player for Chippa United. It was first rumoured that Pirates were targeting him in both of the previous windows. Chiefs then were mentioned in a conversation that involved a swap deal with Christian Saile.

In the end Chiefs used Saile to get Tashreeq Morris from SuperSport United, while Pirates made no signings. That then meant Kwayiba remained at Chippa, at least until the end of the season. Recently, Chilli Boys coach Thabo September has recently stated that the club won’t stand in the player’s way.

Now according to Soccer-Laduma, Pirates are in pole position to beat Chiefs in the race for Kwayiba’s signature.

“Expect him (Kwayiba) to make the switch at the end of the season, and it could be one of the big deals, which could involve a player swap and money. Pirates are very interested in him,” said a source to the same publication.
