City of Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-lewis has responded to a tweet by Elon Musk calling his home country, South Africa, “extremely dangerous.”

The Pretoria-born billionaire – the richest man in the world –  has recently called out SA for its “racial discrimination” against white people. Like US President Donald Trump, Elon has offered the option of asylum to Afrikaners.

ELON MUSK: SOUTH AFRICA IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS

On his X account, Elon Musk responded to a tweep who sought advice for a female friend who was about to visit  South Africa. The tweep had responded to former Olympic swimmer Roland Schoeman, who tweeted about white farm murders.

Roland – who is a naturalised US citizen like Elon – has also been critical of the government and “racial discrimination.”

Elon posted: “Cape Town is essentially a beautiful theme park and is generally kept safe for the tourists, so staying in the tourist areas is probably ok.

The 53-year-old continued: “Other parts of the country can be extremely dangerous for a woman traveling alone with no gun. If visiting a trusted friend, listen very carefully to the directions of that friend. Do not get lost or go exploring without an escort.”

CAPE TOWN MAYOR RESPONDS

In the comments section, while many agreed with Elon Musk’s opinions about South Africa, Cape Town Mayor Geordin Lewis-Hill encouraged tourists to visit the city.

He responded to Elon’s tweet with an invitation that read: “Table Mountain does make quite the backdrop! But trust me, Cape Town’s not just for show. Warm people, great startups, and real heart live here. Alongside incredible beauty. Next time you’re in town, let me show you around. Come see how Cape Town is”.

Hill-Lewis went on to list why the city was one of the best in the world.

He added: “Protecting and advancing property rights

“Attracting many more tourists to come and support local businesses and grow jobs

“Deploying more metro police to tackle crime across the city.”

Thanks @ElonMusk, Table Mountain does make quite the backdrop!
