Fallen hiker flown from Grotto Ravine on Table Mountain
Dedicated teams of volunteers and professionals from Wilderness Search And Rescue WSAR Western Cape (WSAR) responded to Table Mountain after a 65-year-old hiker fell while scrambling up Grotto Ravine above Camps Bay.
The seasoned hiker and his hiking partner were making their way up the steep ravine when he suddenly slipped and tumbled eight metres down the mountainside.
Injured and unable to continue, an urgent call was made to the emergency number – 021 937 0300.
A small team on board the Western Cape Government Health and Wellness EMS / Air Mercy Service (AMS) rescue helicopter were flown to the scene and hoisted down to a point near the injured hiker.
He was assessed and treated by a Western Cape Government Health and Wellness EMS paramedic before being carefully assisted into a rescue stretcher.
He was flown to a nearby landing zone, transferred to a waiting ambulance and driven to hospital.
