Job Description
As a Ramp Agent at Fly Safair, you will be a key part of the team ensuring that flight operations run smoothly and efficiently. Your role will be crucial in maintaining safety, security, and punctuality while managing ground operations. You’ll be working closely with the crew, ground handlers, and other departments to ensure that every flight departs on time and without issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety Compliance:
Ensure that all safety regulations are followed at all times, especially regarding dangerous goods handling. - Aircraft Safety and Security:
You will be responsible for ensuring general safety and security around the aircraft during the turnaround process. - Liaise with Crew and Ground Handlers:
You’ll be the go-between for the flight crew and the ground handling team to obtain boarding clearance for passengers. - Baggage and Cargo Handling:
Monitor the loading and offloading of baggage and cargo, ensuring everything is done efficiently and safely. - Track Load Changes:
If there are any load changes, you’ll be responsible for informing the ground handling team immediately.
- Efficient Turnaround:
Help ensure effective turnarounds, minimizing delays by making sure all handling agents and service providers are in place for arrivals. - Ramp Safety Audits:
Conduct ramp safety audits when necessary to ensure all procedures are being followed. - Vehicle Maintenance:
Ensure that ramp vehicles are clean, well-maintained, and fully fueled for each operation. - Crew Support:
Assist with crew requests, including coordinating clean-up services, providing water, and managing restroom facilities. - Operational Coordination:
Monitor flight operations to ensure on-time performance. You’ll also be responsible for allocating delays when necessary and coordinating any disrupted operations.
- Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Checks:
Conduct regular FOD checks to ensure that no debris interferes with flight operations. - Flight Documentation:
Complete ramp agent forms for every flight and compile reports for any irregularities or incidents that occur. - Cross-Department Liaison:
You’ll need to communicate with different departments to ensure everything is on track, from fueling to boarding gate closure. - Heavy Equipment Coordination:
Arrange support for heavy or oversized equipment, such as motorized wheelchairs, ensuring that all equipment is safely handled. - Passenger Services and KPIs:
Monitor Ramp and Passenger Service Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), such as boarding gate closure times and equipment positioning, ensuring top-quality service.
Requirements:
- Grade 12 or Equivalent: A high school diploma is required.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an airline or aviation environment, preferably in passenger services, ramp services, or baggage handling.
- Driver’s License: A Code 08 driver’s license is essential for the role.
- No Criminal Record: You must have a clean criminal record.
- Airside Knowledge: Understanding of airport operations and airside procedures is important.
Skills:
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks at once.
- Problem-solving ability and capable of making quick decisions.
- Strong planning, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Customer-focused and adaptable to varying work conditions.
- Computer literate and capable of working with basic software.
