Free Agents FC sound bullish about their chances against the under-fire Kaizer Chiefs in this weekend’s Nedbank Cup Round of 32 clash.

Minnows not afraid of Kaizer Chiefs

Free Agents FC midfielder Thulani Dhladhla isn’t over-awed by the prospect of a meeting with Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs. His side plays in the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League. They are massive underdogs, but they’re also aware that Chiefs lost to lowly Milford in this competition last season.

“I would say everyone at the club is excited that we are playing against Kaizer Chiefs, and personally, I am excited because I think it’s everyone’s dream to play against bigger clubs like Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns,” Dhladhla told media

“So I think they are excited and if they are feeling the way that I’m feeling, they will be really looking forward to this match and they are starting to prepare for it.

“When you put it like that, I think the fixture favours us because if they are a team that has a history of losing against lower division clubs, it means we have a good chance of winning against them.”

Chiefs fans are also cautious

There are no guarantees in football, as some of Amakhosi’s fans have reminded us:

“My team Chiefs is already out, y’all know we struggled over the years ngalama-small teams.”

“Starting Jan 26 I want to see new players donning KCFC jerseys on the field at FNB. Tired of being a laughing stock.”

Thabo Cele is available, will Chiefs pounce?

27-year-old Thabo Cele only has five South African caps under his belt after making a debut in 2017 under former Chiefs boss Stuart Baxter.

“Due to serious health problems in the family, the midfielder and the club terminated the contract. According to the agreement between Cele and the club, the footballer will only be able to play for teams from South Africa until the end of the current contract. We wish the player good luck in his future career, and health to Cele’s family. All the best to you, Thabo!” Fakel wrote in a statement.
