Position Details

  • Title: Intern (Communications Team, WFP Brussels)
  • Location: Fully remote, based in Brussels, Belgium
  • Duration: Up to 8 months, starting tentatively mid-August 2025
  • Supervisor: Strategic Partnerships and External Relations Lead

Background and Purpose

The WFP Brussels Office specializes in engaging with European Union institutions to mobilize funds and foster partnerships that support humanitarian projects worldwide. It provides technical support to country offices, negotiates EU contracts, and enhances visibility of WFP’s work in Brussels and beyond. The Communications Intern will play a key role in supporting these efforts by managing visibility activities, content creation, media engagement, and event support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update visibility documentation in Salesforce and Excel, tracking requirements such as banners, press releases, social media posts, videos, and more.
  • Assist the communications team in following up with country offices on upcoming visibility needs.
  • Support paid advertising campaigns linked to EU contracts, including content creation, campaign setup, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Contribute to the production of engaging content for WFP’s @WFP_Europe social media channels, using tools like Canva and Wochit.
  • Help prepare and execute events, exhibits, panels, and other initiatives in Brussels, working closely with stakeholder relations and EU counterparts.
  • Manage an updated list of media contacts related to Brussels and the EU, identifying opportunities to increase media coverage of WFP’s priorities.

Qualifications & Skills

Candidates should be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in fields such as Political Science, International Development, Economics, Journalism, or Communications, with at least two years of study completed and recent attendance in classes. Recent graduates within six months of graduation are also eligible.

Junior-level experience in communications, media, or related fields is preferred. Strong writing, editing, and analytical skills are essential, along with a good understanding of EU affairs. Fluency in English is required, and proficiency in a second EU language is an asset.

Interns will have access to WFP’s industry-leading learning platform, weLearn, offering a range of courses to support their professional growth and skill development.

Terms & Conditions

WFP offers a monthly stipend of up to US$1,000, depending on the duty station. The internship does not cover living expenses or visa costs, but travel reimbursement is available for candidates from developing countries pursuing studies abroad. Interns are responsible for their own accommodation and logistics.
