About the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) Standby Roster

The DRC Standby Roster is an integral part of the Humanitarian Strategic Surge Capacity within the People and Organization department. For over 30 years, DRC has been a trusted partner to UN agencies such as UNHCR, UNICEF, and WFP, deploying experts at short notice to fill critical capacity gaps in humanitarian missions around the world.

The roster is a carefully vetted pool of trained professionals ready for rapid deployment. It enables DRC to swiftly mobilize skilled personnel to support UN and DRC operations globally, ensuring timely responses to humanitarian emergencies.


What the Internship Involves

As an intern with the DRC Standby Roster team, you will play a vital role in supporting deployment operations and administrative functions. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Updating the organization’s website and enhancing social media presence
  • Assisting in the preparation and distribution of quarterly newsletters to roster members
  • Supporting administrative and financial tasks using tools like Excel and the internal ERP system, ‘Dynamics’
  • Helping organize and facilitate induction training for new roster members
  • Assisting with recruitment, reference collection, and onboarding processes
  • Attending briefings and debriefings with deployed personnel before and after their missions
  • Managing UN deployment requests and training registrations in the ‘HERO’ database
  • Contributing to a development project aligned with your skills and interests, supporting the growth of the Standby Roster team

The internship offers flexibility, allowing interns to tailor tasks according to their study requirements and interests.

Who Are We Looking For?

The ideal candidate is a university student enrolled during the entire internship period, with at least two years of higher education completed. While the specific field of study is flexible, a background in social sciences or international affairs is preferred.

  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • The ability to handle complex tasks in a challenging environment
  • Proactivity and independence in work approach
  • Flexibility and openness to diverse responsibilities

Practical Details

  • Duration: 5 to 6 months, with flexibility based on academic requirements
  • Location: DRC Headquarters, Borgergade 10, Copenhagen
  • Start Date: August 2025 (flexible)
  • Work Hours: 32 hours per week, with flexible scheduling to accommodate study obligations
  • Compensation: This is an unpaid internship, but interns will receive 2.08 unpaid vacation days per month, free lunch when available, and invitations to social events such as summer and winter parties

Note: Non-Danish residents or those without the right to work in Denmark will need to apply for a work visa, which can take up to three months.
