Gavin Hunt’s 1000th game faces forfeit after disruption
SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt was set to oversee his 1 000th game as head coach in the PSL last Sunday. However, the game had to be stopped at halftime due to load shedding.
Therefore, SuperSport United may face repercussions from the PSL for postponing a fixture due to load shedding. All home teams in the Betway Premiership must implement backup power measures to ensure that matches are not interrupted.
According to the PSL, matches interrupted by power outages must be resumed within 48 hours. However, this has not yet occurred, putting Matsatsantsa in further jeopardy and overshadowing what was meant to be a celebratory occasion for Gavin Hunt.

SUPERSPORT UNITED WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE A GENERATOR
PSL COO Ronnie Schloss has since clarified that SuperSport United violated PSL regulations by failing to provide backup power.
He stated, “There was load shedding, and the lights came on and off a few times. There is no generator at the stadium,” Schloss said, according to TimesLIVE.
“Stadiums are supposed to have generators. It is compulsory in terms of our rules. This matter will be referred to the DC and the DC will decide what is going to happen.“
“The compliance manual is clear that every stadium that has a club that plays there must have a generator because we can’t rely on just Eskom.“
“The municipalities have installed generators at clubs’ stadiums. If I look at KwaZulu-Natal, I think every stadium has a generator. In Cape Town, every stadium has a generator.”
Gavin Hunt’s landmark game, which has already been interrupted, may culminate in utter disappointment.
GAVIN HUNT’S LANDMARK FACES A DISAPPOINTING OUTCOME
If Matsatsantsa is found guilty in a disciplinary hearing, they will forfeit the game, and Golden Arrows will secure all three points.
This outcome is undoubtedly disappointing for one of the PSL’s most celebrated head coaches. Gavin Hunt has won four league titles (three with SuperSport United and one with the now-defunct Bidvest Wits), and both teams are considered underdogs.
This again highlights some administrative issues PSL teams consistently struggle with. It was the second game in two weeks to be called off because of load shedding, following Chippa United’s encounter against Magesi FC on February 5 at Seshego Stadium.
DO YOU THINK THAT THE MATCH SHOULD BE FORFEITED?
With the rules clear, Golden Arrows will likely be awarded all three points. Is this a fair outcome for Gavin Hunt’s landmark game?
