Key Responsibilities
The Heavy Duty Truck Driver role at SAPS entails several core functions critical to maintaining the operational efficiency of SAPS’s specialised vehicle fleet. Key duties include:
- Vehicle Fleet Administration: Manage both armoured and operational vehicles, ensuring that they are prepared and equipped for deployment.
- Transport Coordination: Oversee and coordinate transportation of vehicles, equipment, and personnel nationwide.
- Inspection & Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of assigned vehicles, ensuring all are operationally fit.
- Compliance & Reporting: Ensure adherence to National Instructions 4 of 2011 (State Vehicles) and 2 of 2022 (Armoured Vehicles), and provide performance reports to Mobilisation Support leadership.
- Security Compliance: Uphold Minimum Information Security Standards (MISS) for secure transportation and handling of equipment.
- Policy Formulation: Assist in developing and implementing procedures for effective vehicle mobilisation.

General Requirements
Language Proficiency: Fluent in at least two official languages, one of which must be English.
Education: A Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or a National Certificate (Vocational) on NQF level 4, recorded on the National Learner Record Database.
Heavy Duty Truck Drivers
License: Possession of a valid South African driver’s license.
Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen.
Clear Record: No criminal or departmental convictions or pending cases.
Tattoo Policy: No visible tattoos when wearing the SAPS uniform.
Security Clearance: Will undergo vetting, including fingerprint verification.
Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal skills for both verbal and written communication.
Work Capacity: Ability to handle high-pressure situations and extended working hours.
Additional Requirements
Driving Experience: A minimum of 3-4 years of driving experience.
Driver’s License Category: Possession of a code EB, C1, C, EC1, and EC driver’s license along with a valid Public Drivers Permit.

Selection Process
