‘I would say NO to selling Mdu Shabalala’ – Kaizer Chiefs boss

Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Junior has rubbished claims that local teams are unwilling to sell their top players to the Naturena-based clubs.

In the past few years, the Glamour Boys have been linked to some top Premier Soccer League players but often failed to capture them. The likes of Khanyisa Mayo and Elias Mokwana under Chiefs’ radar but ended up going to North African teams for big money.

Motaung Jr. explained this week his understanding of why teams are hesitant to sell their top players. Earlier this season, Amakhosi coach Nasreddine Nabi claimed local teams were overpricing their players to make it difficult for Kaizer Chiefs to buy.

“To be fair, I don’t even entertain that; we’re here all the other clubs are our partners. We are stakeholders in the league. We need each other. They need us. We need them. And it’s a situation of us coming to negotiations,” the Kaizer Chiefs boss added.

“They always will have their own standpoint. They want to keep their best players. If you had to ask me, anybody coming to ask, you know, ‘sell us Shabalala’, I would say, No.”

Mduduzi Shabalala has been Kaizer Chiefs’ best player this season scoring four goals so far this season. A number of European teams have inquired about the youngster but it’s unlikely that Motaung Jr would want to lose the attacker this early in his career.
