“I’m sure Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will come back for him”

Both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates were believed to be ready to sign two Polokwane City stars in January.

Ultimately, for different reasons both Chiefs and Pirates lost out on the Polokwane duo but could return end of season.

Chiefs and Pirates both interested in Matuludi

It was believed that Pirates would announce deals for Polokwane duo Oswin Appollis and Thabang Matuludi in January. In the end, the deal did not happen. Those were also players that were of interest to Chiefs. It was believed that Amakhosi made a bid for Appollis but it was subsequently turned down.

It was then thought that when a double deal looked unlikely, Pirates explored a deal for just Matuludi. But the right-back got a season ending injury which also ended any possibility of moving. That could, in turn also open up the possibility of Chiefs returning for his services next season.

Now according to The Citizen, a biding war by Chiefs and Pirates for Matuludi is expected in the next window.

Injury prevented January move

“Football is like that, and injuries are part of the game. Unfortunately for him (Matuludi), he got injured at the wrong time, so that’s why nothing happened. He’s a talented player, and I’m sure the Soweto teams (Chiefs and Pirates) will come back again for him ahead of next season. What’s important is for him to recover after surgery and get back on the pitch as soon as possible.” Said the source to the same publication.

Matuludi suffered torn ligaments on his knee, in a game against SuperSport United on the 17th of January. He may not even be back for pre-season. This will make it difficult for him to move to either Chiefs or Pirates. This due to any move requiring a thorough medical examination.
