About IPID

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is a South African government agency responsible for investigating misconduct by the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Municipal Police Services (MPS). With offices across all provinces, IPID ensures accountability and upholds justice, offering dynamic opportunities for youth to contribute to public safety.

Programme Purpose

The IPID Learnership provides unemployed TVET graduates with practical experience in police oversight, administrative support, and safety practices, equipping them with skills for careers in safety and security sectors.

Key Duties

  • Assist with administrative tasks supporting IPID investigations.
  • Participate in training on safety in society and police oversight procedures.
  • Support data capturing and case documentation for complaints against police.
  • Engage in community outreach to promote IPID’s role in accountability.
  • Collaborate with IPID teams to ensure compliance with safety protocols.

Eligibility Criteria

  • South African citizen with a valid ID and permanent residency.
  • Aged 18–35 years at the start of the programme.
  • Unemployed TVET graduate with NCV Level 4: Safety in Society.
  • No prior participation in a similar learnership programme (affidavit required).
  • Clean criminal and credit record, verified via background checks.
  • No pending criminal, disciplinary, or investigative allegations.

Required Skills

  • Basic administrative and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Interest in safety, security, and police oversight.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow procedures.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a government environment.

Preferences

  • Employment Equity candidates (e.g., Black, Coloured, Indian, women).
  • Applicants residing in the province of application.
  • Proficiency in English and one other South African language.
