Johannesburg: 23 areas to experience an 8-hour power outage
Approximately 23 areas are set to experience an 8-hour power outage starting from Monday, 3 March 2025. City Power Johannesburg stated that the planned power outage will last for eight hours in different areas in the city.
REASON FOR OUTAGE
City Power Johannesburg stated that the reason for the outage was to do maintenance work on their electricity network for better service provision.
The City also urged customers to be cautious with their electricity supply points.
“As the power supply may be restored at any time, customers are urged to always treat their electricity supply points as live,” read the statement.
AFFECTED AREAS
At Bryanston Substation, the power outage will occur on Monday, 3 March 2025 from 8:00 to 16:00 and will affect the following suburbs:
- Westhert ford Road
- Beauford Road
- St Audley Road
At Edenvale Substation, the power outage will occur on Monday, 3 March 2025 from 8:00 to 16:00 and will affect the following suburbs:
- Edenvale Hospital
- Sizwe Hospital
- Rand Aid
- Elphin Lodge
- Sandringham polis station
- National Health Laboratory services
At Allendale Substation, the power outage will occur on Wednesday, 5 March 2025 from 9:00 to 17:00 and will affect the following suburbs:
- Mayibuye
- Rabie Ridge
- Friendship Town
- Kanana Ext. 4 and 5
At Cleveland Substation, the power outage will occur on Wednesday, 5 March 2025 from 9:00 to 17:00 and will affect the following suburbs:
- Marshall Street
- Stone Street
- Long Street
- Park Street
- Fawcus Street
At Roosevelt Park Substation, the power outage will occur on Wednesday, 5 March 2025 from 8:30 to 16:30 and will affect the following suburbs:
- Fairland
- Northcliff
- Berario
At Eikenhof Substation, the power outage will occur on Wednesday, 5 March 2025 from 8:00 to 16:00 and will affect the following suburbs:
- Southfork
- AfriSam
POWER DISRUPTION AFFECTING MORE THAN FOUR AREAS IN JOBURG ADDRESSED
City Power Johannesburg team is currently addressing a power disruption that occurred in more than four areas in the city. The cause of the power disruption has been identified and repairs will soon commence.
The areas affected are Bez Valley, Kensington, Cyrildene, Observatory and adjacent areas.
“An estimated time for restoration (ETR) will be communicated once the repair process begins. We respectfully request that customers unplug electrical appliances to mitigate the risk of further incidents,” said City Power Johannesburg.

In Reefhaven Switching Station (Aloe House), repairs are nearing completion after a cable fault interrupted supply to areas such as Lindhaven, Grobler Park, and other surrounding areas.
