Kaizer Chiefs ACCUSED of foul-play!
Kaizer Chiefs youngster Wandile Duba sent Stellenbosch packing, scoring the match-winner in the 57th minute.
The Maroons took the lead thanks to a Khomotojo Lekoloane goal but could only hold on for eight minutes before Duba scored his first of the night – the scoreline read 1-1 going into the second half.
Following the game, Steve Barker wasted no time saying how he felt about Kaizer Chief’s behaviour in the latter stages: he believes AmaKhosi substitutes and coaches were slowing the game following their go-ahead goal.
“I don’t think Kaizer Chiefs would have been good enough to score against us had we not made our errors which basically led to the first and second goal,” Barker reported.
“Then after we tried to get ourselves back into the game. The last 15-20 minutes unfortunately became a lot of stop-start, a lot of cramps, a lot of slowing down the game, a lot of chaotic [incidents].
“The opposition staff on the bench created chaos needed for them to see out the game.”
Riveiro lost for words
Following Orlando Pirates shock 1-0 loss to Cape Town City, Jose Riveiro was flabbergasted, saying, “It’s actually quite difficult to explain the final result, I think the difference between both teams was too big this time,
“With all respect for the game of Cape Town City, it’s difficult to explain that we lost this game the way we did it. But this is football, they managed to put one ball in the net, we didn’t but a very complete performance, we did everything to win the match, not much that you can do. So, to the next one.
“It’s just pure bad luck in this case, did you see the way they scored? It’s something not normal,” Riveiro responded when asked about the missed penalty and City’s goal.
“Again, like I said, we were Pirates tonight, we played the football that we played before. There were other games that we didn’t play at the level we played tonight where we got the result, but today we didn’t make it.
“Now we have to put our name onto the next one, this one is gone.”
