Kaizer Chiefs are close to securing new striker Tashreeq Morris, according to SABC Sport.

Chiefs are on the verge of a significant transfer coup as forward Morris undergoes a medical, with his move to Naturena expected to finalize this month. This deal has been kept under wraps for weeks, with Chiefs opening discussions with SuperSport United as soon as the transfer window kicked off.

Nabi’s quest for attacking reinforcements

Amakhosi coach Nasreddine Nabi has openly stated his need for more firepower upfront. Current forwards Ranga Chivaviro and Ashley du Preez have struggled to meet expectations, prompting Chiefs to act swiftly in the transfer market. In addition to Morris, Chiefs have also made a bid for Polokwane City winger Oswin Appollis, signaling their intent to revamp the attacking lineup.

“We’re looking for options to support our forwards and ensure we’re clinical in front of goal,” Nabi recently shared.

SuperSport United greenlights Morris transfer

The best news for Chiefs fans is that SuperSport United has agreed to release the 30-year-old Morris, allowing him to join Amakhosi this week. Gavin Hunt, the SuperSport coach, had signed Morris in October to address their injury crisis. Morris, a free agent after parting ways with Sekhukhune United, delivered for SuperSport when they needed him most.

Although a red card in his final SuperSport appearance will sideline Morris for two matches, his arrival is expected to bolster Chiefs’ attacking options significantly.

Amakhosi’s recent 1-0 loss to Golden Arrows underscored their need for a reliable striker. Missed chances have plagued the team, and Morris’s signing comes at a critical juncture. Meanwhile, other potential targets, including Swiss forward Ruben del Campo, remain unlikely to materialize.

More moves in the Chiefs pipeline?

Chiefs’ ambitions extend beyond Morris. The Soweto giants are also pursuing Azam FC midfielder Feisal Salum and Stellenbosch FC defender Fawaaz Basadien to strengthen their squad further. These moves reflect the club’s determination to compete at the highest level and provide Nabi with a balanced, effective roster.

Morris’s arrival at Naturena could mark a turning point for Chiefs, offering the attacking spark they desperately need to climb the league table.
