Kaizer Chiefs: Duba contract talks; Basadien inbound?
Kaizer Chiefs starlet Wandile Duba showed out against Stellenbosch on January 8, scoring two to put AmaKhosi back in the race for the top three.
The Glamour Boys, having been lingering around the middle of the table for weeks, are now nestled in fifth place, boosting their chances of African soccer next year.
Duba’s double steered the Kaizer Chiefs ship to glory, and it seems he will soon reap the rewards of his solid season amid a misfiring AmAkhosi team, with a contract extension expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
“The club wants to keep almost all the youngsters who are doing well for the team,” a source confirmed.
“That’s why after talks and negotiations, the club is offering Duba a new improved three-year contract,
“The technical team and management are both happy with Duba’s performance, and the new deal is an upgrade compared to the one he signed when he was promoted from the DDC team. It’s almost a done deal.
“It’s not just an improved contract. That shows how much the team believes in the player and his ability. He is still young and has a lot to offer while at the same time learning from the experienced players,”
Basadien to Chiefs?
Facing Duba that night was Bafana maestro Fawaaz Basadien, who was forced off with an injury in the second-half – the 28-year-old is heavily linked with Kaizer Chiefs and recently confirmed these rumours, saying, “I mean I’m there to do a job, never mind what’s going on around the media,
“Obviously, it’s good to have a club like Chiefs interested in you but I’m contracted to Stellenbosch and my focus has been there by Stellenbosch and just to put in good performances, week in and week out.”
