Kaizer Chiefs find the panacea (Google it) to their problems?
Kaizer Chiefs will hope that their business in the recent transfer market bears fruit sooner rather than later.
Kaizer Chiefs passed up the chance to sign ‘stellar’ Serero
Thulani Serero made 11 appearances in the esteemed UEFA Champions League, the last of those was in the 2014-2015 campaign for Ajax Amsterdam. In the early days of his career, Serero dazzled for Ajax Cape Town as an attacking midfielder. A Classic number 10. He was named the PSL player of the season in 2010-11, rewarding his creative displays for the Mother City side. His value peaked in 2015 while with Dutch giants Ajax when he was estimated to be worth R4m (R77 million). Serero looks set for a return to the Mother City, with Cape Town City FC in talks with the 34-year-old.
All eggs are in the Thabo Cele basket
With Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Yusuf Maart and Edson Castillo all looking unconvincing at some juncture in their Chiefs tenure, the club desperately needs a midfield general. Samkelo Zwane is still only 22 and there are big questions around his attitude, while Njabulo Blom, a fan favourite, will return to St. Louis City after his loan spell with Chiefs at the end of the current campaign. Cele, who has just turned 28, made 27 appearances for Fakel Voronezh in Russia since moving there in August 2023 from Polish side Radomiak. Cele only has five South African caps under his belt after making a debut in 2017 under former Amakhosi tactician Stuart Baxter.
Time will tell. Is Cele the solution to Chiefs’ midfield issues?
