Kaizer Chiefs’ foreign players quota: Two strikers in, Ntwari out?
Kaizer Chiefs could be forced to release a few foreign players for the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.
Amakhosi have six foreign players; Edson Castillo, Fiacre Ntwari, Edmilson Dove, Miguel Inacio, Makabi Lilepo and Christian Saile (on loan).
According to PSL handbook, Article 34:2 says “A foreign player is any player who is not a South African citizen unless the player has obtained permanent residence in terms of South African law.” A member club may not have more than 5 [five] foreign players contracted with it at any point.”
According to Soccer Laduma, Kaizer Chiefs could release one or two foreign players by the end of the season to make more room for new signings. The Glamour Boys have been linked with a number of foreign strikers in the past weeks.
“They are planning for next season and looking at the players, they want to bring in other foreign players so Ntwari is one of the players to be sacrificed to open up foreign space. I think it’s all about which goalkeepers they want to keep and that’s how it’s believed that this decision came about,” a source told Soccer Laduma.
Kaizer Chiefs faces foreign players dilemma?
Ntwari joined Amakhosi this season from TS Galaxy for a fee reportedly close to R6 million. He has had a shaky start and was eventually replaced with Bruce Bvuma in goals after sustaining an injury.
It remains to be seen if Kaizer Chiefs will sign more foreign players next season. With Saile set to leave, Dove and Ntwari can also make way for Amakhosi to bring more foreign players.
