Kaizer Chiefs must carefully examine their long transfer wish list and act on it accordingly during the January window. Will they do it?

Kaizer Chiefs are chasing big names

Straight off the top of our heads and after a cursory Google search, several high-profile names are rumoured to be targets for the club. This list of ten stars has a collective transfer value of R150 million and it includes the likes of Percy Tau and Oswin Appollis.

Salum blow for the board

According to Soccer-Laduma, Azam FC has offered star midfielder Feisal Salum a lucrative new deal to keep him at the club. The 26-year-old shone last season, scoring 19 times. The new package on the table could be worth as much as R8 million including signing-on fees and wages.

Defensive issues continue to plague Amakhosi

Much is said about Amakhosi’s inability to finish off the chances they create and that fuels rumours of various strikers seemingly on the brink of joining the club. It’s true, their attack is dismally underperforming. They only scored 25 goals in the entire 2023-2024 campaign. So far this term, there’s been a slight uptick with 14 goals from the opening 11 outings. The biggest issue, however, lies at the back. Chiefs have kept only ONE clean sheet this season in the Betway Premiership. Chiefs remain in the hunt for a striker but they’ve got to tidy things up at the back first.

What’s on the horizon?

Kaizer Chiefs produced another underwhelming display and result last time out, losing 1-0 away to Cape Town City. Their next test is against an impressive Stellenbosch side at their temporary home, the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Will the Chiefs board cough up the cash and sign targets to take the club forward?
