Kaizer Chiefs are not favored to defeat Mamelodi Sundowns this weekend, but they have the type of players who can win matches.

After an enforced break due to the postponement of their league match against Royal AM, originally scheduled for last Saturday, Amakhosi will face Sundowns at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville. In their previous encounter earlier this season at FNB Stadium, Sundowns won 2-1. The teams also met in the Carling Black Label Knockout, where Sundowns claimed a decisive 4-0 victory.

This season, Kaizer Chiefs have signed 10 new players but currently find themselves in 8th place in the league standings. There is a lot at stake in this important match, with three valuable points on the line. Amakhosi has accumulated 25 points after 18 matches, while Sundowns sit at the top of the table with 51 points from 19 games.

Key players for Kaizer Chiefs this weekend will include Glody Makabi Lilepo, Mduduzi Shabalala, and Thabo Cele.

Unfortunately, Amakhosi will be without Gaston Sirino, who received a red card in their last match against SuperSport United. Sirino struggled against Sundowns last year and was unlikely to start. For Kaizer Chiefs to succeed, they’ll need a solid defensive performance; however, a purely defensive approach may not be effective against the Brazilians, who excel at finding space and dominating possession.

Kaizer Chiefs have the players who can hurt Sundowns

If Chiefs adopt an attacking style of play, they could pose significant challenges for Miguel Cardoso‘s team. In their previous encounter, Amakhosi narrowly lost 2-1. With Cele orchestrating the midfield, coach Nasreddine Nabi has a player capable of initiating attacks and receiving support from Shabalala, Lilepo, and Pule Mmodi.

Lilepo, despite playing only his first game earlier this month, has emerged as one of Kaizer Chiefs’ standout players this season, scoring three goals in four matches.
