Kaizer Chiefs’ surprising decision about defenders’ future, according to Soccer Laduma.

With the current season nearing its halfway point, Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly made a major decision about Mozambican international Edmilson Dove’s future—a decision that could signal the end of his time with the club.

Dove, who has been sidelined by an injury this season, has yet to make an appearance on the pitch. Meanwhile, Amakhosi has shifted focus to other options on the left side of defense, including Bradley Cross and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe. According to insiders, Dove’s contract, which runs until June 2025, will likely not be renewed.

Chiefs target new left-back amid uncertain future

Sources within the club suggest that Kaizer Chiefs are already planning for life without Dove. They are reportedly working to sign Fawaaz Basadien from Stellenbosch FC as a new left-back option.

“There was hope at some time that things could maybe work out for him, but at this point, his future at Chiefs will be coming to an end at the end of the season when his contract expires,” said an insider.

The source revealed that Chiefs communicated their decision to Dove, who is still recovering from his injury. The team appears set to wait until the end of the season before officially parting ways.

More departures expected

Dove might not be the only player leaving Amakhosi. Another source disclosed that the club is looking to reduce its squad size, and players with contracts expiring in June could be released.

“The club is trying to cut down their squad numbers. That’s why Dove and other players whose contracts are ending in June could be playing their last season here,” the source explained. “More players are expected to leave the village in June.”

Look back at Dove’s time

Edmilson Dove joined Kaizer Chiefs in 2022 as a free agent after leaving Cape Town City. Initially signing a two-year deal, his contract was extended to June 2025. In his first season, Dove made regular appearances and played a pivotal role. However, his game time dropped last season, and this campaign, a pre-season injury has kept him off the field entirely.
