Kaizer Chiefs ‘target’ was always the ultimare smokescreen
Kaizer Chiefs are usually linked with several top players every window. Was this former Bafana man ever interested in signing?
Serero is returning to the Mother City
Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Thulani Serero is a free agent and on the brink of signing for Cape Town City. Kaizer Chiefs fans want the former Ajax Amsterdam and FC Twente schemer in the engine room for Nasreddine Nabi’s side. Instead, however, Chiefs opted for Thabo Cele, a man who’s also been in the Bafana wilderness.
Speaking on X, a fan had this to say:
“Please sign Serero before the Sundowns game to partner Cele. We can’t afford to play them with what we have now…age is just a number, Pirates signed Makhaula..”
Is Nabi the right man for the Kaizer Chiefs job?
It doesn’t look like it. Sure, the Glamour Boys have booked a place in the Nedbank Cup quarters and they’re still in the hunt to win that trophy. Failure to do so, however, would mean 10 years without silverware. That’s not Nabi’s fault at all, but have they improved under the Tunisian tactician? They are 17 points behind the leaders after 17 matches, and there are only three clean sheets in the Betway Premiership to show for their efforts. Nabi’s major signings in his first window were defensive players so surely this tally of shutouts should be higher? Also, why would the club let go of a versatile, talented performer like Thatayaone Ditlhokwe whose best years are still ahead of him? Chiefs need leaders, and they’ve just sold one for a relatively paltry sum of money.
Pep Guardiola isn’t having his best year
Manchester City’s season could be imploding in front of Pep Guardiola’s eyes. They’re out of the Champions League after a 6-3 aggregate loss to Real Madrid in the Round of 16 playoffs. City are also out of the Premier League title race, 17 points adrift of leaders Liverpool and likely to relinquish their grip on a crown they’ve worn four years on the bounce, and six times in the last seven seasons. This season’s FA Cup might be City’s most realistic shot at silverware. Even the great Josep Guardiola would battle at Kaizer Chiefs!
Is Serero still good enough for the PSL?
