Kaizer Chiefs are considering several offers for their star players as the January transfer window fast approaches.

Kwinika is heading out of Kaizer Chiefs

According to The Citizen, Zitha Kwinika is leaving Chiefs as soon as January. The 30-year-old has been an unused substitute in Chiefs’ last two clashes; a 2-0 loss to Polokwane and a 1-1 draw with TS Galaxy. He’s yet to make an appearance in the 2024-2025 campaign. The former Stelleies star joined Chiefs in 2022 for a second stint at the club. Kwinika is a youth product of the Naturena club. Chiefs currently rely on Inacio Miguel and Rushwin Dortley as their first-choice central defensive pairing with talented duo Thatayaone Ditlhokwe and Given Msimango also vying for places.

Top earner

At best, Zitha Kwinika is the fourth or fifth-choice central defender at the club. Yes, he’s versatile and can fill in at right-back, but it’s unlikely he’ll play. Earning a reported R370k a month, that’s an expensive benchwarmer. Kwinika, astonishingly, is the only remaining player in the Chiefs squad who was with the club when they won the league in 2015, aside from the outgoing Itumeleng Khune. Loan him out for one season and the club will save R4.44 million in wages should his new club take that salary on board, as is customary. He’s yet to make an appearance in the 2024-2025 campaign. If Chiefs can shift his R370k monthly wages off their books from January to May, they’d save R1.85 million.

Mdu Shabalala was a Pirates supporter

20-year-old Kaizer Chiefs Mduduzi Shabalala revealed he grew up supporting Orlando Pirates but says now he will “die a Chiefs fan”.

The youth development talent is already a part of the furniture at the club. ‘Mdu’ worshipped former Pirates forward Thembinkosi Lorch growing up in an all-Pirates household.

Shabalala recalls the first Soweto Derby he attended in “about 2019 or 2020 where Chiefs were leading 1-0 and Lorch equalised after a pass from Ben Motshwari”.

Should Chiefs sell Kwinika in the upcoming transfer window or just loan him out?
