Former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse is set to leave Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the season.

According to Mgosi Squad, the 33-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season. Having just played two matches across all competition for Masandawana, Pieterse has served as a third choice keeper behind Ronwen Williams and 40-year-old Denis Onyango.

“From what I hear, he won’t be kept beyond this season. They took an option in his contract two years ago, but it’s the end of the road now,” a source told Mgosi Squad.

Sundowns to release experienced keeper end of the season

“He’s a positive influence in the dressing room, but unfortunately, it hasn’t worked out, and the club will release him when his contract expires at the end of the season.”

Masandawana have also got Jody February in goal and is set to be Williams’ backup going forward. With just three months remaining this season, it seems unlikely that Pieterse will play another game for Sundowns.

Pieterse started his career with Shamrock Rovers before joining Kaizer Chiefs in 2013. He spent three seasons at Naturena and then moved to SuperSport United where he played 20 matches.

In 2018, he joined rivals Mamelodi Sundowns, winning six Premier Soccer League titles and could win another in his last season.

Was Pieterse underutilised?
