Mamelodi Sundowns are the DIRTIEST team in the PSL!

Mamelodi Sundowns are top of the log with 45 points from 17 games but they are certainly not the ‘cleanest’ team in the PSL.

In fact, the Brazilians are the dirtiest team in the league this season given the number of cards their players have been shown.

To date, 538 yellow cards and 22 red cards have been dished out by match referees, and Sundowns top the red cards charts.

A whopping NINE of the 42 cards shown to Sundowns players have been RED, and no team has seen so many so far this season.

Furthermore, the nine red cards shown to Sundowns are three more than what they were shown throughout last season (6).

What this means is that 33 yellow cards have gone to the Sundowns team so far this term, and there will definitely be more.

With 13 league games to go, Sundowns are likely to collect more cards – both yellow and red – and this is something Miguel Cardoso should deal with immediately.

The latest Sundowns player to see red is Denis Onyango who was given his marching orders deep into stoppage time in a 3-1 win over Marumo Gallants on Wednesday.

WHAT MAMELODI SUNDOWNS COACH CARDOSO SAID ABOUT RED CARDS

“The way the game finished wasn’t the best, in terms of dealing with [another] red card, the cards are becoming too easy to be given to our players, it has nothing to do with Marumo,” said Cardoso after Gallants game.

“It has to do in general with teams against Sundowns always find moments to stop the game, to deal with moments where we are stronger, closer to [scoring] and it happened again – it’s a way to manage the game, I can’t say anything.

“But it those moments I never see yellow cards for players [time wasting], and then we saw Denis, he had to kick a ball in front, he received a yellow card and then after that it was an action for a second yellow and the red.

“I think the red cards for Sundowns are becoming cheap, they are coming out very easy.”
